Why using NaDCC?

Chlorine based disinfectants are widely accepted in infection control. What makes sodium dichloroisocyanurate (NaDCC) outshines other disinfectants? Here are the reasons.

  • Powerful

Once NaDCC tablet is dissolved in water, it produces free available chlorine (FAC) in form of hypochlorous acid (HOCl) which acts as oxidizing agent. FAC is a strong and effective agent that can work against a wide range of microbes such as algae, bacteria, spores, fungi and viruses. The active ingredient that contains microbicidal effect is hypochlorous acid. HOCl is four times stronger in killing microbes than hypochlorite (bleach).

HOCl is very similar to the water molecule allowing it to easily penetrate through the negatively charged cell wall. Once the HOCl enters the microorganism, it destroys the nucleus of the cell completing the disinfection process.

On top of that, NaDCC performance will not be affected by the presence of organ loads, e.g. blood and body fluids unlike other disinfectants.

This concentrated disinfectant tablet is effective against a broad range of microorganisms, including C. difficile spores, Hepatitis B, Norovirus, HBV*, HIV*, and Canine parvovirus.

    • At 4306ppm sporicidal solution, kills spores, including C. difficile, in 4 minutes
    • At 2153ppm sporicidal solution, kills spores, including C. difficile, in 10 minutes
    • At 1076ppm dilution, kills bacteria, fungi, and viruses, including Norovirus, in 10 minutes

    * Meets OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard - Kills HBV and HIV-1 on pre-cleaned environmental surfaces/objects previously soiled with blood/body fluids.

  • Long Lasting

The microbicidal effects of NaDCC can last significantly longer when compared with NaOCl (bleach). It is because each time NaDCC only releases about 50% of chlorine (in form of FAC) which is different from NaOCl. For NaOCl from bleach, all chlorine will be released in one time. The secret of NaDCC to have a long lasting effect is by creating a reservoir of chlorine that half of the chlorine is in bound form. When FAC is consumed, the bound form of chlorine will be released to maintain the equilibrium. For this reason, the microbicidal effect of NaDCC can stay much longer than using bleach.

The microbicidal effects on surfaces applied with NaDCC can last up to 24 hours.

  • Less Irritation / Pet Safe

NaDCC is relatively safe to skin, surface and medical equipment when compared between NaDCC tablet and bleach. The pH of NaDCC mainly stays in ~pH 6.5, whereas bleach is a strong alkaline, pH +11 to +12. It is a relatively neutral range which is not harmful to human skin and metal surface. As a result, the life span of medical equipment that are made up of metal can be extended. Also, it does not discolour or degrade most kind of fabrics.

  • Less Smell

When diluted, NaDCC solution smells slightly chlorine similar to swimming pool water.

  • Save Space

NaDCC always come in solid forms (granule or tablet). It does not occupy much space.

One 6.3g NaDCC tablet is equivalent to a bottle of 1 gallon bleach at blood borne pathogen strength. The space saving is over 200 times!

  • Convenient

Each tablet comes in predefined dosage. It is much easier to mix with water than concentrated liquid. Simply drop a table into water. After a few minutes, you are ready to start cleaning.

Due to NaDCC's superior stability, the shelf life of an unopened package can be up to 5 years. Whereas, when diluted and stored in a tightly closed bottle, the shelf life can be up to 6 months. In most cases, the diluted NaDCC solution inside a sprayer can last for a week on average.

  • Biodegradable

NaDCC is a environmentally-friendly disinfectant..All ingredients of NaDCC tablets are readily biodegradable.
